Mycelia
Cross-Cultural Worldwide Indigenous Institutions in service of future generations.
Mycelia, is a Proof of Concept emerging from the paper, Worldwide Indigenous Institution — A Seed from the Future.
Its unique objective is to enable and accelerate the creation of global, digital and decentralized indigenous institutionsto collectively manage our most precious public good — the Future.
To that purpose, we decided to approach this challenge by first acknowledging that together we are the answer.
Mycelia is a symbol,
Mycelia is a network,
Mycelia is an ecosystem for the Web3.0 community,
Mycelia is the expression of life towards an Open Society, Mycelia is our modern prophecy.
Future
We are living right now in the most uncertain times of human history, stemming from multiple systemic crises, which many have simplified as the metacrisis. The metacrisis can be defined as ‘the multiple overlapping and interconnected global crises that our nascent planetary culture faces’.
To answer the metacrisis we must propose metasolutions. With Mycelia, our approach is to consider that every solution lies in the unknown of the infinite future, and that Indigenous Peoples are the greatest community to manage this dimension on behalf of all humanity.
They are an organic decentralized community all around the world who already share the common awareness and responsibility for future generations.
Who else than Indigenous Peoples would be better placed to manage the Future of humanity?
Mycelia considers the Future as a public good, as there is no economic agent that can be excluded from it (non-excludable) and there is no possible competition over its infinite resources (non-rivalrous).
Bridging Polarities
By Bridging Polarity we mean connecting two extremes often considered as opposite to power a whole new field of possibilities.
On one side, the Indigenous Peoples with inestimable wisdom and ancestral knowledge about the Web of Life, and on the other side, the Cypherpunk with cutting-edge technologies and ingenuity to navigate the Web of Society. How can we coordinate these two communities to liberate a new realm for humanity?
Mycelia is our answer to this Modern Prophecy — “The Union of People’s” long ago seen by Indigenous communities, where protecting the Future is our common mission, and freedom our life expression.
Symbol
Mycelia is above all a cosmic symphony of a prophetic synchronicity. A symbol of unity, inspired by the sole desire to preserve life as a legacy for future generations.
Our symbol is very simple, it is a pact of trust between Indigenous Communities and the whole planet, united in a single name representing the web of life, Mycelia, and together facilitate the organic emergence of desirable futures through the union of Human diversity within digital technologies.
Mycelia is based on the right to self-determination as stated by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), that made possible for the community to be entirely independent, and where freedom is the core instrument of our movement.
Impact Network
Mycelia Impact Network incorporates the purpose within its symbol — preserving life as a legacy for future generations, or, in other words, managing the future as a public good on behalf of all humanity. This network is already woven between Indigenous Peoples, as proven by recent elections in Brazil. Thus, for the first time of Brazilian History, Indigenous Representatives presented themselves to Federal elections (and partly won) in each states of Brazil through a collective decentralized campaign and systemic calling: “Time for refloresting collective mindset so as to bring back collective way of being as a society inside our political and organizational system”.
A symbolic shift that now calls to inspire not only the Brazilian politics but also the global scene.
What are the benefits of Mycelia Impact Network for Indigenous Peoples?
- Participating to a common symbol of unity while keeping their cultural autonomy;
- Creating independant economical infrastructure especially with Web3.0 technologies;
- Facilitating access, autonomy and education around digital tools and internet within Indigenous Communities;
- Developing precautionary principles with Indigenous Peoples, particularly around Carbon Credit and Forest finance;
- Simplifying flow of information, visibility & fundraising around a common purpose;
- Creating impactful communications in the attention economy (website, social media, films, NFTs, lobbying etc);
- Facilitating the emergence of high value public goods for humanity by bridging ancestral wisdom with Web3.0 innovations;
In summary an Impact Network could pool life forces into one place to facilitate and orientate the rising use of technologies among Indigenous Communities of the world.
Digital Indigenous Institution
In light of recent events with the FTX saga, it has become clear that the Web3.0 ecosystem needs to re-establish an ethical framework and standards that reflects its first ambition to create an Open Society. However, nation-states are still for the time being not able to provide the legal frame that most Web3.0 entrepreneurs are waiting for.
This is why Mycelia wants to explore a new approach that is much more open than traditional institutions and just as legitimate as nation-states to do so. From the Mycelia Impact Network, we will coordinate the emergence of decentralized and digital Indigenous Institutions to manage the Future as a public good while inviting Web3.0 entrepreneurs to co-create these institutions.
To justify this legitimacy, Mycelia rely on the UNDRIP with the recognition of the right to self-determination giving the freedom to iterate and explore new types of Indigenous Institutions.
A public good at service in service of the Future
The creation of Digital Indigenous Institutions within Mycelia would open up a whole new realm for Web3.0 entrepreneurs, especially for ReFi and ImpactDAO, by allowing them to become members of Open Institutions leaded by Indigenous Peoples.
Mycelia aims also to facilitate the emergence of Web3.0 Public Goods directly within Indigenous Communities. This will allow the emergence of digital projects in vitro to the Indigenous Culture.
For illustration, a project could at any time decide to submit its application to Mycelia. Then, Mycelia would review the project under the prism of indigenous wisdom and future generations. Once the project is approved, in a transparent and decentralized manner, it could receive a ‘Proof of Wisdom’ attesting that it is part of Digital Indigenous Institutions. Obviously, at this stage it is only conceptual and will be assessed by the Impact Network.
This new legal realm has a legal interest for entrepreneurs as it will allow their project to benefit from the open rights of Indigenous Institutions. Indigenous approval would also be a great economic argument in a world where the climate crisis is going to be a persistent concern for the public — a powerful symbol to catalyze actions.
Finances as a public good to support future generation
Projects that could attract a lot of capital into Digital Indigenous Institutions is the creation of DeFi protocols. One idea would be to develop an Indigenous Cross-Chain DEX where a fraction of network fees and yields would be redistributed directly to Digital Indigenous Institutions. We call this new feature YieldShare and thanks to our advisor Qi Capital, we could enter in contact with THORChain, a DeFi protocol solving Cross-Chain’s centralization problem with decentralized liquidity protocol.
